This past summer we booked our first summer holiday to Mallorca one of Spain's Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean. It's the largest of the Balearic Islands.

Getting around
It's easy to get there from most bigger European cities, the airport is huge and they have hundreds of flights landing daily - I googled it, and the airports can take up to 1100 flights a day. Yep, it's big! We split the trip and stayed in three diff areas of the island - Valldemossa, Alaró & Cala Pi. We also rented a car, which I feel is essential for exploring the different villages and beaches dotted around the Island.

A Must-Stay
My favourite place we stayed in ended up being the most unexpected, which was Alaró. A small town nestled in the side of the Tramuntana Mountain range. Central enough to get to the beach in 30mins, but away from the main touristy areas. It has tiny little cobbled streets, beautiful old architecture, and plenty of local eating experiences where very little English is spoken.
My favourite place we stayed in ended up being the most unexpected, which was Alaró. A small town nestled in the side of the Tramuntana Mountain range. Central enough to get to the beach in 30mins, but away from the main touristy areas. It has tiny little cobbled streets, beautiful old architecture, and plenty of local eating experiences where very little English is spoken.
We booked our stay here through Air BnB - a traditional manor house called Can Fressa, the house has been converted into apartments with a shared communal area, a lovely big swimming pool, and braai/bbq facilities. We went out for the days and then came home to braai/bbq and laze by the pool in the afternoons. The owners of the Air Bnb (who were incredible hosts) own a small Natural Wine bar connected to the house, they opened on a Friday evening and invited us to tapas and wine. Alaró felt like the perfect combination of getting to experience the island, while having some downtime to relax and read a book, with no plans and nowhere to be.

The residents put up signs saying that the road is private, but it is possible to drive all the way to the beach.
Shop
The village has all you need: Get coffee from https://www.cyclingplanet.es, stock up on groceries from Eroski City, and for an evening out, you can find tapas and traditional cuisine on the square. The Square also have an ice cream shop, a bonus for hot afternoons when the heat peaks. On Saturdays, there is a cute market where you can buy local goods - think linen, traditional sandals, and crochet. The Tony Moro factory is also worth visiting for custom-made Cowboy boots.

One day I will return to Can Fressa with a big group of friends, evenings spent catching up in the Tapas & Wine bar while the kids swim until their fingers and toes get all wrinkly.

Day trip
Deià, most travel blogs lead to Deià - get there early to find parking. If you can get down by car, go for a swim at Cala Deià. Book lunch at Restaurant Nama, and peruse the beautiful local homeware stores.

Boat
One of the best things we did was book a sunset cruise boat charter - it can be quite spenny, but so worth it. There is something quite magical about diving into the Mediterranian ocean off the back of the boat.
